Zest Intentions is the boldest bottle in the Gut Feeling range. Fermented on strong, malty Assam with black orange, that's Moro blood orange, not the orange squash flavour you're picturing, giving it a deep, almost wine-like colour and a citrus edge with real backbone behind it. Small batch, live, unfiltered, and genuinely one of my favourites out of the four.

If you want kombucha that looks and tastes like it means business, this is the one.

What's actually in it

Filtered water, cane sugar, Assam black tea, kombucha cultures, black orange juice. The black orange is Moro blood orange specifically, on an Assam base with a live SCOBY doing the fermenting. Nothing artificial in there.

500ml, not 330ml, on purpose

Same reasoning as the rest of the range. Roughly 150ml a day if you're drinking it for gut health, so one bottle lasts about three days, a routine, not a one-off. It also holds up brilliantly as a wine alternative. That deep colour and citrus depth mean it doesn't feel like you're missing anything poured into a proper glass with food.

The proper stuff

Unpasteurised kombucha, fermented on strong, malty Assam with black orange. Cloudy, live and short dated. The murky bits mean you no harm. Serve ice cold. A healthy gut starts with feeding it the right things first. Live. Unfiltered. Banging.

Why Black Orange?

Moro blood orange, the 'black orange' in this bottle, isn't just there for the colour, though the deep crimson is genuinely striking. Blood oranges get their colour from anthocyanins, a type of antioxidant compound also found in berries, alongside the vitamin C you'd expect from any orange.

It carries a naturally deeper, more complex flavour than a standard orange juice - the citrus kombucha for people who find the regular version a bit one-note.

This is background on the ingredient, not a health claim about this drink. Kombucha is a fermented tea, not a supplement or medicine.

FAQs

What is kombucha?

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink made by fermenting sweetened tea with a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). The result is a naturally fizzy, probiotic-rich beverage with a tangy, slightly sweet flavour.

What are the health benefits of kombucha?

Kombucha contains live probiotics that support digestive health, B vitamins, organic acids, and antioxidants from tea. Regular consumption may aid gut health, support immune function, and improve digestion.

What brands of kombucha do you stock?

We carry the UK's largest range, including our own Gut Feeling range alongside Blighty Booch, Momo, You + I, and other premium raw and organic brands. Browse our full collection online.

Do you deliver kombucha across the UK?

Yes, we deliver nationwide. We also offer local delivery in Otley and Leeds.

Does kombucha need to be refrigerated?

Yes. Refrigeration slows fermentation and keeps your kombucha fresh, fizzy, and safe to drink. Store between 2-4°C for best quality.

Is kombucha vegan and gluten-free?

Yes, every bottle in the Gut Feeling range is suitable for vegans and naturally gluten-free, as it's made from tea, sugar, cultures and a single functional extract.

What is black orange?

It's Moro blood orange, an Italian variety known for its deep red flesh and a more complex, slightly berry-like flavour compared to a standard orange.

Does it contain real orange juice?

Yes, real black orange juice, alongside filtered water, cane sugar, Assam black tea and kombucha cultures. Nothing artificial.

Why is it so dark in colour?

The deep colour comes from anthocyanins, natural antioxidant compounds also found in berries, which is what gives Moro blood orange its distinctive shade.

Is this the sweetest flavour in the range?

Not necessarily - the malty Assam base gives it more backbone than a typical orange drink, so it reads as complex rather than simply sweet.
