The Celebration Drink That Rewrites the Rules

"Ancient pear. Modern craft. Zero alcohol. All occasion." – Kev, Functional Drinks Club

FLAVOUR VIBES

Fine, delicate bubbles that rise like they mean it.
On the nose: ripe Champagner Bratbirne pear, white blossom, and a whisper of brioche from three-plus years on the lees.
On the palate: elegant acidity, soft tannin, a touch of spice, and a long, refined finish that lingers like a proper toast should.
This is not grape juice in a fancy bottle. This is something genuinely extraordinary.

THE PEAR TRUTH

The Champagner Bratbirne is an ancient Swabian wine pear. Centuries old, deeply aromatic, and widely regarded as the queen of wine pear varieties. Jörg Geiger grows them on his own estate, on trees that have stood for generations. The fruit has a natural balance of acidity, sweetness, and tannin that makes it uniquely suited to sparkling wine production.

Most people have never heard of it. That's exactly why it's special.

THE CRAFT BEHIND THE BOTTLE

This isn't a shortcut. This is a three-year commitment:

  • Freshly pressed Champagner Bratbirne pears are fermented into a still base wine.
  • Bottled for a second fermentation using traditional bottle-fermentation method, the same technique used in Champagne.
  • Aged for over three years on the lees, developing complexity, texture, and those signature brioche notes.
  • Gently de-alcoholised via vacuum distillation at low temperature, preserving aroma and structure.
  • Refined with Jörg Geiger's bespoke recipe of herbs, spices, and white blossoms.
  • Finished with a dosage of fully ripe pear juice from the previous harvest for depth, freshness, and a full-bodied texture.

The result? A completely alcohol-free sparkling wine that earns its place at any table.

WHO IS JÖRG GEIGER?

A passionate forager, grower, and viticulturist based in Swabia, Germany. Jörg Geiger has spent decades combining tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation, with a deep commitment to heritage fruit varieties, healthy soils, and sustainable biodiversity. He didn't just make an alcohol-free drink. He pioneered an entirely new category of gastronomic, alcohol-free fine drinks that belong on the finest tables in the world.

C.-Bratbirne is his first completely de-alcoholised sparkling creation. It shows.

WHY IT BELONGS IN YOUR LIFE

  • You want a celebration drink with genuine depth and complexity
  • You want something to toast with that doesn't feel like a compromise
  • You want to impress guests who think alcohol-free means boring
  • You want the ritual of Champagne without the morning regret
  • You want to drink something with a story worth telling

SERVE IT WITH

Chill to 6–8°C and serve in a flute or white wine glass.

Perfect with: aged cheeses, charcuterie, roasted pork, fine pastry, or simply a moment worth marking.
Equally at home at a Michelin-starred dinner as it is at a Sunday afternoon in the garden.

KEV SAYS:

"This is the bottle you open when you want people to stop and ask, 'What the hell is that?' Ancient pear. Three years of patience. Zero alcohol. All the elegance. C.-Bratbirne doesn't try to be Champagne, it's already something better."

Your Sober Sommelier

Hi, I'm Kev, the Founder of Functional Drinks Club. I set-up FDC when I decided to get serious about my health after turning 40.

A big part of that was to stop drinking alcohol and to improve my gut health so I could live a healthier + happier + stronger life.

When I started cutting down on alcohol I discovered that the supermarkets weren't stocking the bangers being produced by Craft Brewers across the UK.

Functional Drinks Club is set-up to help people find amazing drinks without a Becks Blue in sight.

Everything you need to know before you order

Important Information

What is Functional Drinks Club?

Functional Drinks Club is a shop in Leeds that helps people to live an alcohol free life and improve their gut health.

it's all about conscious living and helping people to turn off the auto-pilot switch and to experience life full on.

Where do the non-alcoholic wines come from?

We're on a journey to find the best non-alcoholic wines being made around the world.

Most of them are really bad. What you'll find in this collection are the ones that we believe are good enough to sell to our customers.

We will keep on searching and sampling because non-alcoholic wines are getting better.

Who is hand-picking the non-alcoholic wines ?

Our very own Sober Sommelier Kev Gillespie who has over 25 years drinking experience rather than 25 years in the alcohol industry selling camel's piss.

He's the Founder of Functional Drinks Club which was set-up to help people find good non-alcoholic craft drinks on their journey to living alcohol-free.

You won't find anything in this collection that Kev doesn't recommend or sell in the shop.

Can I order online and pick the box up in the shop?

You better believe you can.

Order your box, then come and collect it any day we're open once we've pinged you an email saying it's good to go.

The shop address for pick-up is:

Functional Drinks Club
7 Manor Square
Otley
LS21 1JQ

Why won't I find these bangers in the supermarket?

Because supermarkets don't care about selling their customers quality, they're only interested in profit.

And unfortunately, they're all tied in with the big drinks brands who take up a lot of the shelf space meaning the real bangers don't get the airtime they deserve.

Functional Drinks Club is Viva la Revolution.

Actually, we're just a shop that wants to make sure people get access to the real bangers being made in the UK.

How long does the delivery take?

Allow for 3 - 4 working days for delivery depending on when you order it.

If you want it by the weekend then make sure you order no later than Thursday.

Do you do returns?

We don't do returns on anything opened or because you've taken a sip and decided you don't like it.

We're really confident that the latter won't happen because if we were selling camels piss no-one would come back to the shop in person.

If none of the above applies, we need to know within 24 hours of the box being delivered. Past that, who knows what you've been doing.

If you live local, happy for you to come into the shop and replace any unopened bottles that still have a good BB date on them.

If that package is seriously damaged and the wines inside are beyond saving, then send a picture to kevin@functionaldrinksclub.co.uk with you in it smiling and we'll look at getting a gift voucher to the equivalent amount your way.
